Wooden soap molds are a very simple idea.
They are merely a wooden box made to hold the soap recipe in it's
liquid form. These boxes come in many sizes and shapes and most
will have the same results.
When the soap has cured, it will produce a very large slab of soap
that then can be cut into individual bars. If you are making soap
using the cold process then you are going to need a wooden soap
mold. The lye that is a key ingredient in this style of soap making
will damage plastic, rubber or silicone molds. These types of molds
just can not stand up to the extremes that the lye will dish out.
You find wooden soap molds in many sizes. They are usually sold
by the amount of weight they will produce. For instance there are
five pound wooden soap molds that will make five pound slabs of
soap that you will then cut. There are also one pound and three
pounds and even some very larger ones. Some of these wooden soap
molds come with an insert that is placed into the liquid soap. When
the soap cures you can remove the insert and have dozens of individual
bars of soap. |
